File automatically unzips when downloaded

Are you downloading one of the SEO Redirection plugins and, instead of a .zip file, you get a folder? This means your computer is unzipping the .zip file archive automatically. You can change this behavior, and how to do it depends on the browser you’re using. After adjusting this setting, go back to www.wp-buy.com/my-account/downloads or your email and download the plugin again. Here’s what to do based on your browser:

Safari

If you’re using Safari, change this behavior by adjusting your Safari preferences to prevent files from automatically opening.

  1. Open Safari.

  3. Uncheck the box next to Open “safe” files after downloading.
    • By unchecking this option, Safari will stop automatically opening “safe” files after downloading.

If you’re using an older version of Safari, “Settings” might be called “Preferences.

Firefox

Firefox usually doesn’t automatically open .zip files by default. If it’s still doing so, follow these steps:

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the menu button and choose Options.
    • On a Mac, go to “Firefox” in the top toolbar, then click Preferences.
  3. Scroll down to the Applications settings.
  4. Find “ZIP” (WinRAR ZIP or ZIP archive) in the Content Type column.
  5. In the Action column, click the downward arrow to reveal options.
  6. Set it to Always ask or Save File.
  7. Close the page to save changes.

Chrome

Chrome does not automatically unzip files by default. However, if you have extensions installed that provide this feature, temporarily disable them.

Note: If you click the downloaded file in Chrome, it will unzip. Instead, note the download location and navigate to it when you install the plugin.

Other Browsers

For other browsers, contact your browser’s support team for guidance on disabling automatic unzipping of files.

Additional Suggestions

If you’re still having issues, try these steps:

  • Download from a different browser or computer.
  • Disable all browser extensions or add-ons.
  • Avoid clicking the downloaded file in your browser’s download menu; manually locate it in your download folder instead.
  • Check your computer’s default file associations. This varies by operating system, so search for instructions on how to set the default file association on your OS and version number.
